– Award Recognizes Marc Fedo at Denver Health Medical Center as a Nursing Professional Making a Difference in Health Care Today –
AURORA, Colo. – June 7, 2016 – American Sentinel University and the Colorado Hospital Association (CHA) named Marc Fedo, nurse manager at the Denver Health Medical Center, as the April Colorado Health Care Stars Award winner. This award recognizes Fedo as an exceptional health care professional.
Colorado Health Care Stars is a statewide health care professional award recognition program sponsored by American Sentinel University and CHA. The program was launched in February 2015 to acknowledge clinical professionals in Colorado who exceed expectations in the delivery of health care.
In his role as nurse manager, Fedo is a proactive leader that puts an extraordinary focus on patient and family safety. When the hospital was challenged with patient falls, Fedo led a team that evaluated the cause of the problem and created an action plan aimed at decreasing patient falls.
“Marc’s collaborative approach worked to bring the inter-professional team together for a four-hour planning event that evaluated the cause of patient falls, collaborated around ideas and developed a plan of action,” says Joseph Gerardi, ACNO at Denver Health Medical Center.
Fedo worked tirelessly with stakeholders to develop a plan to decrease falls; nine months into implementation, the hospital is seeing a significant improvement in patient falls.
“Marc never stops in his role as a nurse manager, and he continually introduces new ideas in a collaborative manner that involves those health care professionals at the front line,” says Gerardi. “He’s become highly respected by his peers and patients for his contributions to ensure our hospital is a safe place for everyone.”
“There is no prevention practice that has been proven to eliminate all falls, but thanks to Marc Fedo and the development and adoption of fall prevention programs, hospitals like Denver Health see a marked improvement,” says Chris Wolfe, Director of Program Strategy and Alliances at American Sentinel University. “We commend Marc Fedo for his initiative to develop a multifaceted fall program to ensure that Denver Health is a safe place for patients and families.”
